Even though the cool 82 degree game time temperature threatened to cool things off, the Modsquad bats were on fire last night. The Boys in Purple rocked Jackson Lewis to a 18-7 final.
Nick DiFranza led the way offensively, rocketing two home runs and driving in three runners. DiFranza, with the two long balls, took over the team lead in the season long home run race.
Other offensive stars included Kyle Bobek (3-3, 3 RBI, BB) Todd Dias (4-4, 4 RBI) and Alan Brogdon (3-3, RBI).
After putting up a two spot in the first inning, the Squad fell behind in the bottom half, giving up five runs. The team battled back to tie the game in the top of the second and never looked back. The Boys in Purple added five runs in the third, four in the fourth, and added two runs in each of the last two innings to secure their ninth win of the season.
Defensively, the team looked exceptionally sharp. The Sweet Swinging Lefty Roger Swingle made a diving catch to save a run early in the game. On the opposite side of the outfield, Chris Lima made a lucky catch at the warning track and almost doubled off the surprised base runner.
According to League Fuhrer Head Umpire, the base runner missed second base while retreating back to first on the play.
Only two injuries to report on after the win. Late in the game, Modsquad owner Frank Vitale took a line drive off his chest. Vitale says he didn't get hit, but we're waiting for the painkillers to wear off to get official confirmation of the near miss.
And it wouldn't be an injury report without adding fan favorite Eric Klein to the list. Klein was sniped by a Jackson Lewis infielder (ball walloped him in the chest) while coaching third base.
The 'Squad has two regular season games remaining before the playoffs start.
