With game time temperatures reaching the mid-90's, the Modsquad was able to shut down Blue Sky 15-2 thanks to a strong pitching performance by Todd Dias, an offensive outburst reminiscent of the start of the 2010 campaign, and Dr. Scott Bern's "hydration" mantra.
Dias, filling in for team ace "Big Joel", was able to control a Blue Sky lineup that scored 19 runs in their previous outing against the "boys in purple".
Nick DiFranza homered, stretching his team leading total to three on the season. With the home run, DiFranza sets a new team record for most home runs in a season. DiFranza added a double and drove in four.
Filling in for Dias in the outfield was Minnesota's favorite Kyle Bobek. Bobek made a inning saving catch in the first and doubled up the runner who was trying to advance. Bobek shined at the plate, collecting three hits and driving in a pair of runners.
Chris Iannantuoni continued his assault on every right fielder in the league; three hits (including a triple) and four runs and two RBIs made for a very impressive performance at the plate.
Chris Lima eventually figured out how to hit his way out of a brown paper bag; Lima collected three hits (single, double, triple) and drove in four runner after a disappointing 0-3 performance against JH Cohen last week.
Finally, in medical news, Modsquad catcher Vince Sampagnaro returned from the DL and engineered Dias' pitching performance. The HR Hammer went 1-3 and kept Dias "calm, cool, and collected" on the mound.
