In what many are calling a premature end to a storied franchise, the Modsquad softball team will be packing up for good at the end of the 2010 season.

Alan Brogdon, the team's manager, stated in an email blast to the team that "it's been fun playing with you guys, but we all knew the fun can't last forever".

Brogdon challenged his team to put it all on the line this season, anything less than a championship trophy would tarnish the team's legacy.

Many are wondering what caused Brogdon to pull the plug on the team. We have a few theories:

Injuries:
Star shortstop Nick DiFranza underwent off-season surgery, and the doctors gave him at least one or two more good years of activity before his skills would begin to rapidly diminish. Left fielder Chris Lima is scheduled to undergo off-season shoulder surgery, and his return to the game is questionable.

"Of course I'd stick with the team," Lima said "Probably in some sort of coaching capacity."

Age:
"Our team isn't getting any younger," commented Brogdon, "Our best prospect (his son Pierce) is about 25-26 years away from joining the club.

Commitment:
Now that Superfan Kristen Bladel is getting hitched during the offseason, she won't have to "Put up with all the rah-rah bullshit and photo taking crap. Lima's mine, he's not going anywhere once we're married."

Mixed Priorities:
"I've moved on from softball" replied outfielder Todd Dias, "climbing, to me, provides a much greater sense of accomplishment than leading the team in home run".
